Can there be anything more shocking and painful than seeing our entire planet drying up right in front of our eyes? We believe not. Many stories and reports regularly reveal all the ways humans are trashing the planet at an unprecedented rate. However, we might throw up our hands and say there’s nothing we can do to fix the problem, but defeatism won’t get us anywhere.

Imprudent human acts, like over-consumption of natural resources, production of chemical waste, and deforestation can drift the environment and has a harmful impact on human lives as well. Whether it’s food, clothing, water, electronics, gas, cars, furniture, toys, knick-knacks or other goods, we are all consumers. The concern is not to stop consuming, but to start being conscious of our consumption habits and how each purchase or action affects the atmosphere.

The bright side is that it's not too difficult, or expensive to be an environment friendly. It can even be a fun challenge to implement among your family, friends or coworkers. And yeah, minor changes at the individual level may seem trivial, just think how much cleaner the planet would be if everyone adopted even a few of the behavioral changes.

Even the Governments and corporations are stepped in, they shouldn’t bear all the responsibility for making a positive environmental impact. People from all walks of life can do things each day to reduce their carbon footprint and make their routine more eco-friendly.

"The greatest threat to our planet is the belief that someone else will save it." - Robert Swann

There is growing evidence to suggest that exposure to natural environments can be associated with mental health benefits. Clean air and water, sanitation and green spaces, safe workplaces can enhance people’s quality of life; healthier lifestyles, improved productivity of workers and their families, improve lives of women, children and elderly and are crucial to mental health.

Here are a few sustainable recommendations needed for our earth & its residents' better future:

Treasure The Trees. They are great at pulling carbon dioxide out of the environment and creating oxygen, improve water quality, help save energy, and combat climate change. They help decrease ozone levels in the environment, reduce noise pollution, and offer various fruits and flowers that provide several health benefits.

Sustainable Transport. Fossil fuelled cars, buses and trucks are noisy, pollute the air and threaten our health. Walking or riding your bicycle to commute to work, school, and other places will cut down the fuel consumption and burn some calories which is also beneficial for your health and reduce greenhouse gases in the environment.

Consume Less. Water is a natural resource and its supply is finite, therefore, to preserve our environment and minimize the effect of drought, it is necessary to conserve water. Try to make better use of sunlight and avoid using artificial lights during the daytime.

Go Organic. Pesticides in our food, water and air can increase the risk of cancer and infertility, harm children’s healthy development and disrupt our hormonal systems. However, if we buy locally grown produce from a farmers' market, for instance, the food is likely to be freshly picked and we'll have a chance to pick organic veggies. Planting and maintaining an organic vegetable garden in your yard also provides countless benefits.

Recycle. Recycling minimizes pollution and preserves our natural resources. Buy products that can be recycled or made from recycled materials, and pick the products with little packaging.

Here are a few little things that can make a huge impact to the environment and for Us:

  • Buy an environmental-friendly reusable stainless-steel bottle for carrying your water around.

  • A steady 50 – 90 km/h on the highway is best to achieve optimal fuel economy.

  • Start a compost heap to reduce the waste you send to dumpyards.

  • Wrap gifts in fabric than going with paper and sticky-tape.

  • Take a brisk shower, not a unhurried bath, to save water.

  • Make use of airtight food containers, than using plastic shrinks or wraps.

  • Choose energy-efficient home appliances replacing the older ones.

  • Replace familiar incandescent light bulbs with more energy-efficient CFL and LED bulbs.

  • Use low-phosphate washing-up liquid and powder to prevent lowering oxygen levels and killing plants and fish.

  • Refuse plastic carrier bags, or at least reuse them. Cloth and jute bags are better.

  • Use cavity wall insulation that can cut heat loss through the wall by up to 60%.

  • Utilize solar panels that can produce a surprising amount of energy.

  • Cleaning a dirty air filter from air-conditioners can save several amounts of carbon dioxide a year.

  • Avoid air travel that produces three times more CO2 per passenger than rail.

  • Save food, and apply smarter ways about storage and preservation.

  • Visit a thrift store to buy second-hand clothes or recycled ones instead of new ones.

  • Buy biodegradable sanitary pads than the plastic ones to reduce the waste.

  • Improve the ambience and dine by candlelights, saving electricity.

  • Eventually, buy things from companies with eco-friendly standards; boycott those without.

It’s high time that we as an individual must contribute to protecting and sustaining our environment.
